College of Plant Science & Technology is the union of the former departments of Agronomy and Horticulture，both of which are the earliest departments in the establishment of University. On June 2002, according to the overall strategy plan of the education reformation and specialty regulation of Beijing University of Agriculture, these two departments (Part of Agronomy Department) formed the Department of Plant Science & Technology, which covered Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant protection specialty. On December 31, 2008, Department of Plant Science & Technology was upgraded to College of Plant Science & Technology.

Now, the college has 4 education departments (Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Agricultural Resources and Environment), 5 specialties for undergraduate education, including Agronomy (crop genetic breeding direction), Horticulture, Plant protection, Seed science & engineering, and Agricultural resources and environment. Among these specialties, Horticulture is the characteristic specialty of Nation-level, and Agronomy is the characteristic specialty of Beijing Municipal-Level. The college has 1 training base of Beijing Municipal-Level, 2 training bases of university-level, and 1 Beijing municipal experimental teaching demonstration center. The college has also 2 first-level awarding qualifications of master degree on Crop genetics and breeding, Horticulture, 3 second-level awarding qualifications of master degree on Crop genetics and breeding, Pomology and vegetables, among them, Pomology is the key disciplines of Beijing Municipal-Level, Crop genetics, Breeding science and vegetables discipline are the key subjects of Beijing University of Agriculture. At present, the college has also 5 awarding qualifications of master degree on Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant protection, Seeding and utilization of agricultural resources and other professional. The college has 3 research institutions including Key laboratory of Beijing agricultural application and new technique, Institute of fruit research, and Institute of Crop Genetic Breeding.

The College has advanced experimental equipment, the asset of instrument and equipment is up to about ¥65,000,000; 2 campus practice teaching bases, totally about 300 acres; more than 10 stable outside practice teaching bases, that can meet undergraduate and graduate experiments requirement. The College now has more than 800 undergraduates and 100 graduates.

Up to August 2012, the college has about 79 registered teachers, among them, 45 have doctoral degree, ratio at 57%; 25 have master’s degree, ratio at 31.6%. Among the 60 full-time teachers, 44 have doctoral degree, ratio at 73.3%, 13 have doctoral degree, ratio at 21.7%, and also among 60 full-time teachers, about 38 have senior professional title (17 professors, 21 associate professors),  ratio at 63.3%. The College also has 5 doctoral tutors (admissions), and 38 master's tutors. There are 4 Excellent Teachers and 1 Famous Teachers (Beijing Municipal-Level) as well.

In 2003, the department of Plant Science & Technology gained the Capital labor medal and was awarded the title “Excellent group of Beijing education innovation” by Beijing Municipal Federation of Trade Unions; in 2008, backbone course teaching team of Horticulture specialty gained the title of “Beijing municipal outstanding teaching team”. 

In 2005 and 2009, two Academic Innovation Teams (high quality fruit ecological security team, vegetable producing security team) won the fund support by Beijing Municipal Higher School Talent Teaching Innovation Team. The college has 4 Excellent courses (Beijing municipal-level), 7 Excellent courses (university-level), as the editors and compiler for 18 textbooks (3 textbooks as Beijing Municipal-level excellent).

During the national 11th five -year development program, the college had completed more than 60 subjects assigned by provincial or national government, won 15 research awards of the nation or province level, 5 breeds or varieties were certificated, more than 400 papers were published in the core journal.

Since the foundation of the University, the college have educated and transported relative kinds of graduates for about 7000 people, including 3500 undergraduate students, and 150 graduate student. Many graduates have been working hard at the forefront of the agricultural industry on Beijing suburb and made a positive contribution for the development of agriculture and the capital economic. Over the years, with the joint efforts of all the teachers and students of our college, the remarkable achievements continuously improve the quality of teaching, and the graduates have the good reputation among the employers.
