The Animal Science and Technology College can be dated back to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Beijing Agricultural College (Nowadays, this college is already renamed as Beijing University of Agriculture in English，BUA). It is one of the earliest second level teaching units of the university. The Animal Science and Technology College, with the ratification of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, was officially set up in March 2010. The college is strong in teacher resources, complete in disciplines, advanced in equipment. The teaching staff of the Animal Science and Technology Collegesums to 57, among which 35 have teaching tasks, 1 distinguished teacher in Beijing city, 11 professors, 15 associate professors, 25 with PhD degree, 29 tutors for master candidates. The college has 622 undergraduate students and 97 postgraduate students. After graduating, it is easy for students to find a job and the engagement rates are over 98% in recent years.
There are 2 undergraduate programs – Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, which is a major with special characteristics at both Beijing municipal level and national level. The Veterinary Medicine includes Basic, Preventive and Clinical Veterinary Medicine, while the Animal Science include animal reproduction and breeding, animal nutrition and feed technology and animal production.
The college has established more than 20 stable animal science teaching and research bases, including affiliated enterprises of Beijing Capital Agribusiness Group, those of Beijing Shunxin agriculture Limited by Share Ltd, those of China animal husbandry Limited by Share Ltd, Da Bei Nong group, Beijing Ornamental Animal Hospital, Beijing Waddell animal husbandry Co. Ltd., Beijing Jun Peng pet training Co. Ltd., Beijing Our Game All animal hospital management company, Beijing Fuxin Pet Animal Hospital Limited, etc. The college has formed long term collaboration relationship with these companies, of which 5 has established professional awards.
In the past three years, this college has presided or participated over 70 research projects funded by both the central and municipal governments, such as National Natural Science Fund, Beijing Natural Science Fund, national "11th five-year", "12th Five-Year" science and technology support program etc. The total research funds sums to 25000000 RMB. The college has been awarded with more than 15 research prizes of various levels. In July 2012, the second level project of the nationaltransgenic major projects“transgenic beef cattle breeding”, which is presided by prof. Ni Hemin of the college, has gained a great achievement. The birth of two transgenic cloning cattle was reported extensively be “China education news”, “China animal husbandry and veterinary Report”, “Xinhua net”, “Farmer daily”, etc.
The Animal Science and Technology College adheres to the open education, actively promoting international exchanges and cooperation and expanding the international vision. It has established a long-term academic exchange relationship with universities in the United States, Japan, France, Italy, Britain etc. At present, the college has signed cooperation agreements with the Oklahoma State University in US, Azabu University in Japan, Ecole d'Ingénieurs de PURPAN in France, Turin University in Italy. The Animal Science and Technology College has sent more than 40 teachers and students to 10 foreign countries including the United States, Japan, Britain, France, Italy etc. to participate in academic exchanges and learn foreign advanced management ideas and theory of technology.
Over 50 year, more than 5000 high level agriculture technicians has graduated from the Animal Science and Technology College, and many of them has become the main members and experts in Beijing government and animal science and veterinary medicine sector. These persons function as escorts for meat products safety of urban people, a companion animal safety needed by urban leisure life, living environment and quality improvement. The Animal Science and Technology College has become the cradle for the senior professionals of both animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in Beijing and contributed to the development and construction of urban modern agriculture
